Over the course of one weekend, storytellers, designers, engineers and data scientists in Dublin form teams and collaborate - alongside more than 29,000 other participants in 230+ locations around the world - to address 25 challenges set and judged by NASA's expert panel.
Space Apps is NASA’s annual global hackathon. First held in April 2012 it serves as an innovation, incubation and civic engagement programme. NASA and its partners put out challenges relating to current work for which space enthusiasts around the world of all backgrounds can develop innovative solutions (which can be more than just apps), particularly focussing on the use of NASA data and promoting education. The project, formerly run by NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer, is part of NASA's Earth Science Mission Directorate and is a part of the Open Government Initiative.
